Personal paintings
Fotoalsgemälde.ch places great emphasis on creating unique artworks of high material quality, painted by a professional artist from your own photo.
When we paint from a photo there is no limit to what can be painted, so it is entirely up to you what you want painted. At Fotoalsgemälde.ch we paint realistic artworks from your photos. A personal painting is the perfect gift or a way to preserve a memory, a person or a pet. The price of a personal painting starts at 495 CHF - floating frame and free insured shipping throughout Switzerland are included.
Our portrait painter is ready to turn your order and your photo into a personal artwork. The most popular sizes are 60x40 cm (495 CHF) and 70x50 cm (645 CHF) - yes, you heard right: a genuine hand-painted oil painting incl. frame and shipping for under 650 CHF. You choose from sizes ranging from 60x40 cm (495 CHF) to 100x70 cm (1'095 CHF), and if you would like a custom size, you can choose it directly on the product page or simply get in touch with us.
From order to delivery takes about 2-3 weeks. Most commissions take about a short week to paint. The paint then needs to dry for about another short week before the painting moves on to our framer. Here the painting is first stretched onto a stretcher frame, and if you have chosen framing (included in the price), a floating frame is handmade for your painting.
We recommend that you upload a photo digitally during the ordering process. If you don't happen to have a digital version, you can of course also send it directly to us. Please be aware of a longer delivery time depending on when we receive the physical photograph from you.

How is a painting painted from a photo?
Step 1. Receiving the photo/order
Our artist receives your photo. They make sure that the quality of your picture is good enough, so that details such as facial expressions and small touches can be seen and brought out.
Step 2. Sketching the subject
We start at the top left and work towards the right. After preparing the canvas and mixing paint in the correct tones, the artist always starts by sketching what is to be painted. In the example above, the child is the centre. It could also be a car or similar. The background is then painted.
Step 3. The base colours are painted
After sketching the painting and the background, the artist begins adding colour to the individual - in the example above, the child. You gradually begin to see the painting take shape, but it is still too early to think about details.
Step 4. The painting gets shadows and weight
The painter applies paint and shadows so that they harmonise with the proportions of the subject and the painting. The artist begins to add characteristic features and details, and refines lines and brushstrokes.
Step 5. The painting is detailed
The painting is in its final stage. The artist has the thin brush out and adds further shadows, hair and facial expressions. This phase of the painting is the most time-consuming and requires immense concentration and attention. The last, fourth picture, at the bottom right, is the finished painting.
Step 6. Your artwork is ready
When the artist has applied the final brushstrokes, the painting needs to dry for a while before it can be stretched. Once dry, it is stretched onto a stretcher frame - and if you have chosen framing, a floating frame is handmade for it. The painting is now carefully and securely packed before it is sent to you. The example above took 5 working days to paint.
🎄 Christmas gift tip: A personal painting is one of the most touching Christmas gifts you can give - but the artist needs time. Order by 1 December, and the painting will be painted, framed and delivered in good time before Christmas.
