Quality and oil paintings

Qualität und Ölgemälde - Fotoalsgemälde.ch

Every commissioned painting is professionally hand-painted from scratch, without computers or clever printers. This is a craft, carefully carried out for each individual order. Our artists are professionals, so museum and gallery quality is guaranteed.

As with investing in art, it can be hard to put your finger on exactly what makes a painting high quality, beyond perhaps finding it attractive and a good likeness. Since Fotoalsgemälde.ch prides itself on delivering works of art, quality and an eye for detail are central to us. From the choice of oil paint and canvas to the artist and the framing, we care about a high, consistent standard and stand behind it.

One of the first things to look for in a quality painting is that the artist has worked evenly across every part of the canvas, even the areas that are not necessarily relevant to the main subject. You will also be able to see whether the artist has used professional-quality paint and canvas. Just as paint is not simply paint, a canvas is not simply a canvas. They come in different materials, such as linen, cotton and polyester.

It can also be a blend. Linen has a coarser thread than cotton, so the two types of canvas suit different expressions. Polyester used to be regarded as a cheap substitute for the finer cotton, but today high-quality polyester canvases are available. Unlike natural fibres, polyester does not expand and contract with changes in temperature and humidity, so the risk of damage to the painting is smaller. Look for canvases with an even thread and weave. The larger the painting, the more important this is.

As you will probably have noticed, Fotoalsgemälde.ch is not the only company offering this "photo to painting" service. If you search on Google, for example, a handful of alternatives will appear. Many of these use printers and computers to quickly produce something that looks like a real painting. In virtually all cases you will also receive your "painting" directly from China, rolled up around a cardboard tube, with no framing and no quality check.

From Fotoalsgemälde.ch you will always receive your artwork fully framed and ready to hang or give as a gift. At Fotoalsgemälde.ch, solid oak floating frames are handcrafted professionally and individually for every single order. We do not fob you off with a cheap frame made of, say, oak veneer, even though that would have been considerably cheaper. As a rule we always use floating frames. In practice this means the painting appears to float within the frame, which really sets the painting off. This is in contrast to ordinary picture frames, which are suited to posters, for example.

When you buy from Fotoalsgemälde.ch, you (and we) can be sure that we have all of the above under control and stand 100% behind the standard and quality. That can sometimes be hard when you go looking in the "art jungle" yourself.
